Why is this item so expensive?
Originally the baskets were made from 5/16ths thick aluminum wire. Several years ago, the manufacturer started making them from plated steel wire instead. Because of the environmental issues associated with plating, they then changed to powder coated steel wire.
While they do look nice, they are heavy and the wholesale cost has more than tripled over what the aluminum ones used to cost.
I am working with a local fabrication shop to see what it would cost to reproduce the original aluminum baskets. In the meantime, this is the only option available.
